Thame Annual Duck RaceThe Thame Round Table Duck Race is held every year and has become a much loved focal point for children from the town and surrounding villages. The number of Ducks ‘liberated’ into the River Thame from the Priest End bridge (near St Mary’s Church) has steadily increased year on year to it’s present level of approx 2,400 yellow rubber Ducks. Seeing thousands of rubber dusks cascading from the bridge into the river to then gently make their way down stream is a unforgetable sight! The first three Ducks to make it to the finishing point approximatly half a mile down stream are invariable greeted each year to the sight of a Pirate brandishing his wodden sword an who invariably ‘falls’ into the river. Did he trip, was he pushed, nobody is ever really sure, but as long as he gets wet the kids dont actually care! |

Helping SantaEvery Christmas Santa interrupts his busy pre-Christmas schedule to visit Thame and the surrounding villages. He has realised that only visiting children once a year whilst they are fast asleep is not helping his public image. As a consequence Santa turned to Thame Round Table for help in the run up to Christmas. With our help he is now able to personally meet many of the children living in Haddenham, Thame and Long Crendon (secretly we think he’s doing it to figure out who’s been naughty and who’s been well behaved). For some unknown reason his reindeer are only available to tow his sleigh on Christmas eve. We are only too happy to help Santa out by towing his sleigh behind one of our cars. Obviously this is not as efficient as flying across the rooftops but it does mean he gets to meet more children. |
Thame Carnival
Enjoying the party atmosphere that pervades the town during the annual carnival is also an activity that we are happy to support. For the last couple of years the carnival possession has been supplemented by Thame Round Tables ‘Duck Barrows’. The Duck Barrows are a highly experience wheelbarrow formation display team. Each year our members spend many minutes in the run up to the Carnival practicing their ‘flight’ routines. During the procession they can be seen executing inch perfect routines such as the 'Diamond 4' and the 'Vixen Break', to the obvious delight of the crowds as they pass by ;-)
